Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad offers his future successor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a senator to join the government, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
In an interview with Malaysiakini, Saifuddin revealed the proposal was made on May 13, three days before the full pardon was given to Anwar.

He said that when Mahathir asked about the plan of the PKR general chairman, Anwar said he would go abroad to lecture and explore the country to thank the voters for supporting Pakatan Harapan (HOPE).
Earlier, Anwar insisted he would return to politics as a member of the Dewan Rakyat but refused to do so through the by-election in the Pandan seat won by his wife who is currently deputy prime minister.
